In The Snow AW14/15 Fashion Photo Shoot, Zermatt, Switzerland. September 11th, 2014
As last winter drew to a close I was drawn back out to beautiful Zermatt to do a fashion photo shoot for In The Snow’s new publication “Love The Mountains” Of cause, the weather did it’s usual trick of providing me with the whole gammut of conditions in just 4 days, which tends to send you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and frustration (especially when the fog sets in). But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the years it’s to try and use the elements to your advantage, so we carried on and shot through in all conditions, using misty mountains and ancient wooden chalets as backdrops. I used the D800 for most of the shoot and natural light.
Fresh Tracks Brochure Front Cover 2014 September 9th, 2014
Here’s the Ski Club of Great Britains Fresh Tracks holiday brochure front and back cover shots. I shot these in Kühtai in Austria back in March on the SIGB ski test. He had fantastic weather and great snow for the whole shoot and a great bunch of skiers to work with. There are quite a few more shots to come but I’ll post those later in the winter once they have been published. Got to love a bit of ski photography
Luke 1977 AW14/15 Fashion Photo Shoot. August 15th, 2014
Here’s a few shots from the Luke 1977 Aw 14/15 collection fashion shoot, we shot it at OneZeroOne studio in Birmingham using their fabulous studio for half the shoot and then moving down to the industrial floor below to use that as a location for the other half. I got Alex Jones in for the make up.
Martin Sayer of Saymore PR directed the shoot, always a pleasure.
Luke 1977 SS14 Photo Shoot. March 14th, 2014
This year Luke 1977 decidied to go into the studio and shoot clean, crisp shots for their Spring Summer collection, so that’s exactly what we did at Kingsland Road Studios in London, using my Elincrom Style 600 flash units in the white concave and a D800. We also shot a few shots of Alpha Industries Bomber jackets and Parkers.
Cycle Surgery @ the Olympic Velodrom March 11th, 2014
Here’s a couple of shots from a shoot I did for Cycle Surgery in the Velodrom at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic park, Stratford. It was quite a tricky one as we only had probably an hour and a half while the BBC where having lunch inbetween filming for Sports Relief to get the shots done. Although it seemed quite bright in there my camera meter thought otherwise and we had to get the Elinchrom Quadras out in order to get the depth of field correct.
Interior Photo Shoot @ Lion Quays February 20th, 2014
This was an interior photo shoot for Original Style Ltd, a tile, stone and mosaics supplier who had just finished fitting out the pool and jacuzzi at Lion Quays in Shropshire. It was a difficult shoot in many ways. Firstly it had to be shot after closing at 10pm, secondly it was incredibly hot and humid inside and last but no least the lighting changed colour every few seconds.
So I had to wait at least half an hour for my cold lenses to acclimatize and for the steam to clear off the glass, I took a manual white balance reading and shot the whole thing RAW on the Nikon D800 tethered to my Macbook and made appropriate adjustments in Photoshop in post. The whole thing worked out a treat in the end.
Jaguar Landrover Production Line Shoot for Sika January 8th, 2014
Here’s a picture from the Jaguar Landrover production line taken during a shoot for Sika who produce the mastics and glue that hold these vehicles together. It was an amazing experience working in there, but the lighting was horrible and we didn’t have the luxury of time or anyway of stopping the relentless progress of the production line. I shot mostly on the Nikon D4 but for this shot I used the D800, I shot everything as RAW and I did the corrections in Photoshop in post, you can see the original RAW file below.
Fashion Shoot for Luke 1977 November 5th, 2013
Here’s the results from a shoot earlier this year with British mens fashion brand Luke 1977. The brief was ‘SURVIVAL KIT’ with a nod to the great outdoors and surviving the elements. They had Brian ‘The Lion’ Rose current WBO Intercontinental and British Champion modeling for them and I found the location, an abandoned quarry in the welsh mountains, it was a hard, harsh environment to match Brian’s hard fists, they also had a Sky Sports camera man came along to film it all.
The Elinchrom RX Rangers where dragged up the hill for the job with a few Quadras thrown in for good measure, I shot the flash shots on the Nikon D800 and the natural light on the Nikon D4 using a 50mm f1.4
All in all it was a great shoot even if it was bloody freezing cold. Here’s what Luke had to say about the images:
“The outcome was amazing and he hit the brief bang on and within budget. Not only was the shoot conducted in a professional manner but the post production work was stunning and gave the images another dimension. We have had a very positive response to this campaign that has gone national through various media. Communication and enthusiasm was solid throughout and we look forward to working with Ross going forward.

Dare 2 B AW15 Photo Shoot in Saas Fee, Switzerland. September 30th, 2013
Dare2b AW13 Photo Shoot with Driven Agency. September 26th, 2013
This time last year I was doing a shoot with the Driven Agency for Dare2b clothing Autumn/Winter 13 range. We shot it in Saas Fee, Switzerland for a week with fairly tricky weather and snow conditions through out, hence we used the Elinchrom Quadras quite a lot. I used the Nikon D800 for most of the non action and the flash action photo’s, but reached for the Nikon D4 for the skiing pictures and the nightlife photography.
Here’s a little video of the shoot below.
